Storm “Daniel” caused devastating floods in Central Greece at the beginning of September. Horticultural businesses were also affected. The Gartenbau-Versicherung estimates the total volume of claims to be up to 3 million euros.

The storm occurred particularly in central Greece. The amounts of rain that fell there exceed all measurements taken so far. The water masses particularly affected horticultural farms with tomato production, but also pot and young plant farms. Representatives of the Gartenbau-Versicherung have already been able to visit six of the seven destroyed farms in order to assess the damage and initiate initial settlement measures. The seventh farm is still cut off from the outside world. There is a regular exchange of information by telephone to provide initial support.

The top priority of the Gartenbau-Versicherung is to help the affected farms as quickly as possible, to settle the damages and to support the farms in restoring their existence. Advance payments are also planned to ensure that the farms can continue to operate. “Our thoughts are with our Greek members,” emphasises Christian Senft, Chairman of the Board of Gartenbau-Versicherung. “We are determined to do everything in our power to help them in this difficult time. Gartenbau-Versicherung stands by their side and will settle the claims as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have a local presence and are working closely with the farms to ensure they get the support they desperately need.”
