Eleven school students got a taste of various occupations at Gartenbau-Versicherung and were able to conclude by getting active in the garden of the specialist insurer.

Pupils get to know interesting occupations in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt.

Career orientation free of gender clichés: that is the aim of Girls‘ Day/Boys’ Day, which took place this year on 3 April. Holding true to the motto ‘Discovering nature – discovering yourself’, Gartenbau-Versicherung opened its doors in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt to a total of eleven school students. The girls and boys spent a day getting a taste of the working day in various departments and, to round off the day, built an insect hotel together with gardener Gabriele Heymach.

Divided into small groups, the students learned more about marketing, project management, IT, human resources development and the work of sustainability manager Anette Raschdorf. ‘A day of practical work with us is particularly interesting because we combine two areas here in one company: horticulture and insurance,’ explains Marie Bühler from the human resources development department. This shows how diverse a career as a gardener or horticultural engineer can be. And vice versa, that you can also contribute your private interest in nature as an IT or marketing specialist, for example.

The employees of Gartenbau-Versicherung were happy to take time to prepare for this day in advance so that they could give the students as comprehensive an insight as possible into the various occupational fields. Last but not least, Gartenbau-Versicherung would also like to do something for the Wiesbaden location with its commitment to Girls’Day/Boys’Day. ‘As a Wiesbaden-based company, we would like to help ensure that school students from here and the surrounding area gain confidence in their future career choices,’ summarises Marie Bühler. All in all, it was a successful day in which everyone involved had a lot of fun.
