Tanja Dworschak-Fleischmann
Managing Director
1. What are your functions and responsibilities, and how long have you been doing this job?
As owner and managing director, I take on a wide range of tasks. For one thing, I bear primary responsibility for operational organization, though I am fortunate to receive support with standard duties such as bookkeeping and purchasing. At the same time, I remain actively involved in day-to-day operations, ensuring our greenhouses function properly and our herbs thrive. Last but not least, I provide guidance and support to some of our staff—including those in inclusive employment roles—in their work.
2. What emotion(s) do you associate with your work?
I love fragrances—sweet, ethereal, invigorating, or even soothing; the main thing is variety. I find all these scents among my herbs. It is always a wonderful feeling to stand amidst my herbs, catching their aromas and watching them grow.
3. In your view, what makes your company special?
We employ environmentally friendly production methods in well-insulated greenhouses that maintain an optimal climate, shielding the plants from harmful external elements. Sustainable production is a top priority for us. We operate with maximum energy efficiency—utilizing a two-tier growing system and our own combined heat and power (CHP) unit—and conserve resources through a closed-loop sub-irrigation system.
We give our herbs the time they need to develop the specific compounds we require. Strictly adhering to organic farming guidelines and monitored by both our organic association and our certification body, we produce our herbs in harmony with people and nature. For several years, our nursery has been a well-known partner for reintegration and rehabilitation facilities, vocational training centers, special needs schools, and workshops for people with disabilities.
4. Who are your customers and where can your products be found?
We do not merely grow the ten most common staple herbs; we cultivate a very wide variety, enabling us to supply not only food retailers but also health food stores, garden centers, and florists.
5. How have you perceived the support provided by the horticultural insurance company so far?
We have been insured with Gartenbau-Versicherung since we first started out. We find the service excellent; we have never been left in the lurch. On the contrary, Gartenbau-Versicherung has actually approached us to point out that they could cover a loss (such as glass breakage). We have consistently received good advice, and there was always someone there when a crisis hit.
