Expert claims handling.
Fair assessment by neutral gardeners
“They are the backbone of the insurance business—close cooperation is a key element of successful claims settlement.”
Christian Senft
Chairman of the Board, Gartenbau-Versicherung
What are claims experts?
Our claims experts are horticulturalists from various specializations who volunteer their professional expertise for the benefit of the community. They assess crop damage for the horticultural insurance provider—impartially, independently, and based on extensive practical experience.
What makes this form of collaboration special is that the claims experts understand the challenges of horticulture firsthand. They know what hail, heavy rain, or an irrigation failure means for a business—allowing them to evaluate damage in a way no outsider could.
Everyone pulls together for the sake of the horticultural community. This willingness to collaborate across company boundaries is unique and defines the quality of our claims settlement process.

Who can become a claims expert?
In principle, any experienced gardener can become a claims expert—regardless of their specific field or employer. What matters most is practical experience, professional expertise, empathy, and a willingness to volunteer for the community.
How are claims experts deployed?
Following a notice of loss, the horticultural insurance company commissions a suitably qualified expert. This expert assesses the damage—either on-site or based on documentation—and prepares an impartial report to serve as the basis for settling the claim.
What damage is being assessed?
Our experts assess all insured crop losses—ranging from damage caused by hail, heavy rain, and frost to total losses resulting from technical failures, such as irrigation system breakdowns.
Why are horticultural damage experts particularly well-suited?
Only someone who is a gardener themselves understands the precise growth stages, typical signs of damage, and the economic significance of individual crops. This combination of practical expertise and independence guarantees fair and accurate assessments.
How independent are the experts really?
Completely. Our claims experts act to the best of their knowledge and belief—without any conflict of interest. As gardeners themselves, they understand the situation of the affected party while remaining able to make an objective assessment.
How quickly does an expert arrive after the damage is reported?
We aim to settle claims quickly and straightforwardly. Once a claim is reported, a suitable expert is promptly appointed. In urgent cases—such as acute crop failures—we prioritize the assessment accordingly.
